Freddie Records announced on Tuesday (Oct. 28) that legendary Tejano artist Jay Perez, known affectionately as “The Voice,” has officially extended his recording agreement with the iconic label.
In a statement shared by Freddie Records, the label expressed its appreciation for Perez’s continued partnership.
“We’re extremely honored to work with such a singular and iconic talent,” the statement read. “Jay has been a part of the Freddie Records family of artists since 2012 and we look forward to continuing our relationship with him into the future. We thank all of Jay’s fans for your continued support. Get ready for a special announcement coming soon from Jay. You don’t want to miss it. Stay tuned.”
Perez himself fueled excitement with a playful message to fans in a video posted to social media.
“We are getting ready to start something brand new for all our fans out there. You have no idea what’s coming,” he said. “I’m excited about it. So is the rest of the band. And we can’t wait to share the news with you. But right now, I can’t. So, I won’t. I don’t want to get in trouble with the record label. But something new is coming real, real soon. Stay tuned.”
The San Antonio native — who took home Song of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year honors at the 2024 Tejano Music Awards — is currently in the studio working on his next project, “Lo Nuestro.” The album will serve as the highly anticipated follow-up to his Latin Grammy-nominated release “El Patrón.”

In an exclusive interview with Tejano Nation Radio host Romeo, Perez revealed that “Lo Nuestro” will showcase a fresh, collaborative approach.
“Doing things a little different this time around,” he shared. “I want to get the entire band, you know, 100% involved in this project because in the past it’s been different producers and different arrangers doing this and that and getting other musicians to do studio work for our albums. And this time around I figured if I can take my family — the band — on the road, why not have them all record the album?”
With over three decades of captivating audiences through his dynamic voice and magnetic stage presence, Jay Perez remains one of Tejano music’s most beloved figures. From his early days performing with Latin Breed and David Lee Garza y Los Musicales to launching his solo career in the mid-1990s with hits like “Steel Rain,” Perez has become a cornerstone of the genre, earning 40 Tejano Music Awards throughout his career.
Fans can expect more details about “Lo Nuestro” and the mystery announcement from Jay Perez soon — and if history is any indication, The Voice is just getting started.
