Ramón Ayala, the legendary Norteño musician known worldwide as “El Rey del Acordeón” (The King of the Accordion), is reportedly hospitalized and in stable condition under medical observation, according to Spanish-language entertainment media reports published this week.

The reports surfaced following Ayala’s October 10 performance in Mexico City, where the 80-year-old music icon raised concerns among fans after requiring assistance to reach the stage, performing while seated and leaving the venue in a wheelchair.

As of this report, neither Ayala’s representatives nor his management have issued a formal public statement confirming the latest reports about his hospitalization or providing an official update on his condition.

The reports have prompted renewed concern for the health of an artist whose career has spanned more than six decades and helped shape the sound and international popularity of norteño music.

Recent Health Struggles Raise Concern

Ayala’s appearance in Mexico City came amid previously disclosed health challenges. During a September 17 press conference, the musician reportedly revealed that he had been experiencing severe motor weakness and a loss of strength in his legs.

He also acknowledged suffering approximately 20 falls in recent months, underscoring the physical difficulties he has faced while continuing his farewell tour, Historia de un Final.

Reports following the October 10 concert also raised concerns about a possible shoulder fracture. However, that injury has not been officially confirmed by Ayala’s representatives, and no formal statement has clarified the circumstances surrounding his reported hospitalization.

Despite these challenges, Ayala had previously expressed his intention to continue his farewell performances. His representatives had indicated that he planned to move forward with the remaining dates following a career that has made him one of the most influential figures in regional Mexican music.

Five U.S. Farewell Tour Dates Remain on the Schedule

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Ayala’s health, five U.S. arena performances remain listed for the Historia de un Final farewell tour as of October 15. No official announcement has confirmed whether any of these dates will be canceled, postponed or otherwise adjusted.

The remaining scheduled performances are:

October 30, 2026: Austin, Texas — Moody Center ATX (rescheduled date)
November 7, 2026: Ontario, California — Toyota Arena
November 14, 2026: Stockton, California — Adventist Health Arena
November 27, 2026: Portland, Oregon — Veterans Memorial Coliseum
November 28, 2026: Kennewick, Washington — Toyota Center

The upcoming Austin performance is particularly significant for Texas fans, as it is the next scheduled U.S. stop on the tour. The date had previously been rescheduled, and its status remains subject to any future announcement from the artist’s team or the venue.

Nine previously announced dates from the 2026 leg of the tour were reportedly removed from schedules earlier in the year, adding to questions surrounding the remaining itinerary.

Fans holding tickets should consult the Moody Center’s official event page for the latest information regarding the October 30 Austin concert.

A Legendary Career and a Farewell Under Uncertainty

For generations of fans, Ayala’s accordion playing and unmistakable norteño sound have become an enduring part of Mexican and Mexican American musical culture. His recordings and performances have helped establish a lasting legacy across borders and generations.

The reported hospitalization has placed renewed attention on the challenges surrounding his farewell tour, as fans hope for positive news about the beloved musician’s health.

For now, Ayala’s current medical condition and the status of his remaining performances have not been formally confirmed by his representatives. Tejano Nation will continue to monitor developments as additional verified information becomes available.
