Former Siggno drummer Joey ‘JMZ’ Jimenez has joined a new band

Earlier this year,Joey “JMZ” Jimenezannounced his departure fromGrupo Siggnoafter eight years and six albums with the two-time Grammy-nominated group. Now the talented drummer announced he has joined a new bandduring a Facebook Live videoon Thursday.

“A lot of you don’t know, a lot of you may know I’m going to be taking over the drum seat with Masizzo,” Jimenez said in the video. “Superfan of the band since back in the day and just kind of figuring it out what it is I was gonna do, what was going to be next for me?”

When Jimenezannounced his departure from Siggnoin January, he said he wanted to jam with a few other bands and it turns out a jam session turned into a full-time gig.

“We started playing together it just gelled,” he said. “I can’t really explain it, it’s just one of those things…I don’t know if it’s just experience or what, it sounded like we’ve been playing together all along.”

“At the end of the day for me, more than anything I just want to play with a group of guys that enjoy what they do,” he added.

Masizzoreturned with new music for the first time in three years with the release of a new single, “No Digas Que No,” in January featuring a new lead vocalist,Isaias Ramirez, the son of original memberAlbert Ramirez.

At the age of 5, Jimenez began playing drums professionally and by age 9 was performing, recording and touring with Grammy-winning artists Selena and Chris Perez. His career has spanned almost three decades including stints with Xelencia (6 years), Mitico (4 years), A.B Quintanilla III y Los Kumbia Kings/All-Starz (7 years), while also working with Chako, Vanilla Ice and other artists.
