LAREDO, TX — Award-winning Tejano artist Roel Martinez is currently recovering in a Laredo hospital following emergency gallbladder surgery on Monday. The singer, known for his powerful voice and captivating stage presence, shared an update on his health status through a heartfelt video posted on social media, explaining the situation to his loyal fans

“I had an emergency surgery yesterday for my gallbladder, and I just wanted to share with you guys that I have to cancel the gig in San Antonio on the rodeo this coming Saturday,” Martinez said in the video. “Unfortunately, I didn’t want to do it, but my health comes first. I’m still in recovery, about to go home though, but I didn’t want to do this, but I have to.”

The cancellation of his upcoming performance at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Street Fair Stage, scheduled for February 15, was a difficult decision for the artist, but his focus on recovery is the priority. Despite this setback, Martinez assured his fans that he would be making a return to the stage soon.

“I’ll keep in touch with you guys about that, but right now, this video is for this Saturday’s San Antonio Rodeo cancellation,” he continued. “Fuerte abrazo, and hopefully, we’ll see you soon. Thank you.”

While Martinez will miss his San Antonio show this weekend, he has confirmed that he will attend the prestigious 5th Annual Premios Tejano Mundial in San Antonio on February 20, where he has received two nominations. The talented singer, who won Male Vocal Performance of the Year at the 2024 Premios Tejano Mundial, is expected to make a strong appearance at the event.

Additionally, Martinez plans to perform at the WBCA Parade in Laredo, Texas, on February 22, marking an exciting return to the stage in his hometown. As a Laredo native, his strong ties to the community are evident, and his fans are eager to see him back in action.

Martinez’s journey in Tejano music spans several decades. He initially gained fame as the lead singer for the legendary Grupo Rodeo, joining the band in 1998. His tenure with the group was cut short in 2006 due to health complications that prevented him from continuing as lead vocalist. After a period of recovery, he returned to the music scene and released his solo album Sonador de Amor in 2019. His latest project, Mas Que Ayer, was released in 2024 to critical acclaim, solidifying his position as one of Tejano music’s most respected and beloved artists.

Fans are excited for his upcoming performances and look forward to seeing Roel Martinez continue to recover and return to his music career with renewed energy.
