After a four-year hiatus, Devin Banda has made a powerful return to the Tejano music scene with the release of her new six-track EP, Vamos a Brindar. The 2012 Tejano Idol runner-up has already captured the attention of fans with her infectious cumbia single, “Me Olvidaré de Ti,” and now she is keeping the momentum going by dropping a lyric video for the song.

Devin, known for her captivating cumbia style, shared with Tejano Nation that the song’s upbeat rhythm and catchy lyrics are what resonated with her audience. “That was the cumbia one that we have. Cumbia was something that people are familiar with me singing,” she said. Working alongside her husband Lucky Joe, Latin Grammy winner Mariano Herrera, and award-winning hitmaker Gabriel Zavala, Devin poured her heart into creating an EP that blends passion with vibrant Tejano rhythms.

For Devin, the decision to release a lyric video was sparked by feedback from fans who had fallen in love with the song but struggled to learn the lyrics. “I had gotten a few people telling me… they loved the beat and that it was super catchy. And they were telling me they don’t know the words but they love the music,” Devin explained. To ensure fans could connect with the song on a deeper level, she created a bilingual lyric video. “I had the idea of making that lyric video to where it was in Spanish and English so everyone can kind of take part in understanding and getting the message across,” she shared. Devin has plans to release lyric videos for the remaining tracks on the EP as well, making sure the stories behind her songs are accessible to all.

Looking back at her hiatus, Devin reflected on the journey that led her to return to music. “I’ve just been working. I’ve been working a lot… with COVID happening, I think that was a start of me kind of just settling down,” she said. Though she initially took time away from music, Devin now regrets putting it aside. “When I didn’t have it, I realized how much I loved it and how much I wanted to do it,” she admitted. Despite the struggles of re-entering the music industry after a break, she is thrilled to be back and ready to perform.

Having debuted her career with the 2017 album Unstoppable—which earned her a Tejano Music Awards nomination for Best New Female Artist—Devin is now more determined than ever to share her music with the world. This latest EP, Vamos a Brindar, marks a special milestone for Devin, as she collaborated on the project with Lucky Joe, whom she married in September 2023. The two artists had the unique opportunity to work together in the studio, occasionally offering differing creative opinions, but ultimately blending their artistic visions. “It was really fun,” Devin said. “We got to experience that whole two artists joining one project together.”

Fans can look forward to the full album release later this year, with Devin hinting at a return to live shows as well. “We are planning to do some shows together, hopefully, and so I can start getting familiar with it again,” she said.

Devin Banda’s comeback is a testament to her love for Tejano music and her dedication to reconnecting with her fans through new and exciting projects. With her new lyric video for “Me Olvidaré de Ti,” fans are eager to follow Devin’s journey as she continues to make her mark on the Tejano music world once more.
