PARK CITY, Utah — The “Selena Y Los Dinos” documentary made its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on January 26, offering an intimate look at the life and career of Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. The documentary, directed by Isabel Castro, takes a deep dive into the personal and professional aspects of Selena’s life, exploring not only her groundbreaking music but also the unwavering support of her family, including her sister Suzette Quintanilla and her husband, Chris Perez.
Suzette and Chris attended the premiere, where they shared emotional remarks about the documentary and Selena’s enduring legacy. Suzette, clearly moved by the experience, reflected on the beauty and hard work behind the documentary, saying, “A lot of beauty and a lot of hard work that you guys were able to see that Isabel took our life and put it into this amazing documentary. I was hoping that I’d be more composed, but I can’t believe, I’m never lost for words, guys.”
She continued with a heartfelt tribute to her family’s journey: “I’m extremely proud of my family. I’m forever grateful for my father for pushing us and navigating us into this incredible life that we have. I’m even more grateful for all of you and all of Selena’s fans who continue to keep her here. I’m just very proud of Selena and what she represents as a woman and more than ever right now, a Mexican-American.”
Chris Perez, who was also deeply moved by the experience, expressed his gratitude for the fans and the love surrounding the project. “I want to thank everybody for coming out. It means a lot to myself, Suzette, all the Quintanilla family, and the guys in the band. There’s a lot of beautiful stuff and there’s a lot of difficult things for us to kind of watch. But to watch it in a room with all of you and feel your energy, I could feel it — we could feel it. Thank you for keeping the memory alive and pushing the legacy forward,” Chris shared.

In an interview with MiTú, Suzette added, “I feel not just Selena’s story, but our family’s story of our struggles, the determination, you can do everything, you know. We are witnessing a whole new generation embracing Selena and what she meant to us. When I say us, Mexican Americans, it’s a little nugget of love that we want to leave behind for the younger generation to be inspired by.”
Chris echoed her sentiments, expressing excitement over the new perspective the documentary offers: “I’m happy that her fans get, and people in general, get to see a different perspective of her. It’s a little different than a movie or the series — you’re actually going to hear her talking, and it’s all coming straight from her. It’s a great thing.”
