Grupo Metal, featuring Chris Perez, brings a unique sound and style to their music, blending heavy guitars with Latin pop, rock, and cumbia rhythms. The band is set to release five original songs in 2024, along with accompanying videos, behind-the-scenes footage, and a documentary

Growing up in Texas, Carlito Miranda and Chris Perez of Grupo Metal have always cherished the sounds of their youth. Carlito’s father, Carlos Miranda, a renowned Tejano singer, deeply influenced his musical passion. Chris, a rocker at heart, joined Selena y Los Dinos just as the band was rising to fame.

For these two Tejanos, the Rock ‘n’ Roll of their youth now shapes their sound in both English and Spanish, drawing inspiration from bands like ManáLa Ley, and Enanitos Verdes. “I think it’s a pretty good combination of the music that we love to do. Part of our past and our history, which is Tejano music, will always be a part of who I am. I know Carlos feels the same. We’ll always consider ourselves Tejano musicians, no matter what style we’re playing, because we’re from Texas. But Metal music is, in my opinion, a cool fusion of what we’re about—the rock elements and aspects, you know, with cumbia rhythm patterns. We just combine a lot of Latin influences with the rock that we like to do,” Chris Perez told Fox San Antonio.

Grupo Metal blends the best of two worlds, all rooted right here in Texas. “And that’s kind of how it works: you mix all that stuff, and you get Grupo Metal. You know, you mix Maná with Juanes, Santana, and even some Van Halen, AC/DC. We mix all our influences together into metal. It’s pretty cool how it worked out.”

The band’s single, “Volare”, talks about the struggles kids are living through and an angel who lifts them up like a guardian angel for protection. Carlito said, “‘Volare’ is a song that I had. I mean, I was just listening to the original sound of it and it’s completely not the way you hear it today. I was seeing a lot of things happening in Mexico and that’s kind of like the basic, where I came with the idea of ‘Volare’, talking about la guerra, but it’s a song that I feel that goes in even with families, struggles, you know, individuals, whether it’s relationships, work, whatever it is.
