Excerpt from the article: Oftentimes for musicians/producers/soloists/etc., you’re either one or the other. You don’t get to be both, and it sucks, correct? So the fact that you are doing that, and we have been seeing quite a few Latin American artists entering the country scene in a way that we’ve never expected before, and you want to enter that scene in full force, not just as a world-renowned accordionist and musician as well as a producer, but even more so now as a soloist, as a solo act, a solo brand, but at the same time be able to keep that Latin side too. So what would you say is your reasoning for that?
A. I can tell you exactly why. When I was younger, Emilio Navaira was the King of Tejano Music. At the height of his stardom, he recorded a country record. I remember wondering if he was ‘leaving Tejano for good?’ I remember being disheartened by that thought. Ultimately, that wasn’t the case, but as a fan, I just didn’t know. Now that I’m in a similar position, I want to make it clear to everyone that I’m not leaving one genre for another. As for the multiple hats I wear in my productions, many artists can do that. I’m open to working with other producers and such, but at this moment in time, I find it fulfilling to utilize everything I’ve learned in my solo project.
