‘Domingo Live’ to Celebrate the Belated Birthday of Jimmy Gonzalez

This Sunday, Domingo Live will honor the belated birthday of the late Tejano legend Jimmy Gonzalez with a special episode featuring performances by none other than former Grupo Mazz member Cristina Salinas. Earlier this year, Salinas released a heartfelt tribute album dedicated to Jimmy G, making her performance a fitting homage to the beloved musician.

Jimmy Gonzalez co-founded Grupo Mazz in 1978 alongside Joe Lopez. The duo quickly rose to prominence, known for their innovative approach to Tejano music. They seamlessly blended traditional Tejano sounds with elements of pop, rock, and R&B, creating a unique and captivating style that resonated with audiences.

Throughout his career, Gonzalez was celebrated for his exceptional guitar skills, soulful voice, and charismatic stage presence. His contributions to Tejano music earned him numerous awards and accolades, solidifying his status as a true icon in the genre.

Even after the original lineup of Grupo Mazz disbanded, Gonzalez continued to make music under the name Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz, consistently delivering hits and captivating performances until his death in 2018. His dedication to his craft and his ability to evolve with the times ensured that his music remained relevant and beloved by fans of all ages.
