Award-winning vocalist Destiny Navaira, who celebrates her 32nd birthday tomorrow, admitted that the month of May “is always a rollercoaster month” for her family as May 16 marks the passing of her uncle, Emilio, Tejano’s top superstar who led the genre during its heyday. Two days later, is Destiny’s birthday.

This year, add the premiere of her bilingual love song, “Forever,” along with the accompanying music video, which the singer marked with a release party at Tony’s Siesta, a popular bar in downtown San Antonio on Thursday night.

“It was so much fun,” Destiny said. “I think people are surprised with the video. It’s a little out of my comfort zone, but I think everyone was pleasantly surprised.”

The song, “Forever,” marks Navaira’s first time recording in English and she hopes the bilingual ballad will serve as a bridge into loftier goals, namely the English market, while, Navaira says, “still staying true to my roots.”

“I actually don’t like the acting part, for me, that’s like the most uncomfortable, but I really wanted to get like the vibe of the song,” she said. “I feel like this song is versatile in it can be directed to any kind of love, but I definitely wanted this to be like the classic love (in the video).”

Destiny recognized her friend, Freddie Gutierrez, the actor and model, who played her love interest in the “Forever” music video.

“So, I think just me out of my element, kind of acting with somebody else, is really different for me,” she said. “Most of my videos are just about me.”

Destiny thanked her fans for their continued support, and hopes they enjoy the changes in her music, and as she matures as an artist. “I hope that everyone is open to this new change that I’m going to be doing, and I think ‘Forever,’ like I said, marks that start of this change,” Destiny said. “And I just want to tell everybody that I’m really excited. I’m growing in my artistry, not just as a singer, but I’m ready to create my artistry and really make my mark on the world.”
