Selena Quintanilla-Perez, the beloved Tejano superstar, was tragically killed by her friend and former employee, Yolanda Saldivar, on March 31, 1995. Nearly 30 years later, Saldivar is speaking out from the Texas prison where she has been serving a life sentence for the murder.

In a new Oxygen True Crime docuseries, Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them, Saldivar reveals details about her relationship with Selena, the events that led up to the fatal shooting, and the aftermath of the crime. The two-part special also features interviews with Saldivar’s family members, who share never-before-seen documents and recordings that they claim show a different side of the story.

However, not everyone agrees with Saldivar and her family. The series also features interviews with the people who were involved in the investigation and prosecution of Saldivar, as well as journalists and experts who cover Selena and Latinx culture. They challenge the new information presented by Saldivar and her family and maintain that she was rightfully convicted of killing Selena in cold blood.

Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them is a compelling and controversial exploration of one of the most shocking and heartbreaking crimes in music history, and the legacy of Selena that lives on today. The docuseries premieres on Oxygen with back-to-back episodes on Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and concludes on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. ET/PT. Episodes will be available to stream on Peacock the next day.
