Full Gallop presents an evening of music celebrating Oktoberfest with a twist. Two Central Texas bands will take us on a musical history lesson of how German and Mexican cultures came together in Texas – via the accordion! Isaak Klaus and the Lederhosen Junkies will open with traditional German music and Los Texmaniacs will close out the night with Conjunto music. Bring your dancing shoes and get ready to polka Texas style!

Isaak Klaus was the 2020 Polka champion of the Texas Folklife Big Squeeze accordion contest and is an up-and-coming act to watch. His band has been touring the state for a few years now and has performed in over ten Oktoberfest events just this year!

Grammy Award winners Los Texmaniacs led by Max Baca and nephew Josh Baca will perform a conjunto set and explain the history of how the accordion was introduced to South Texas in the 1800s leading to the development of the conjunto genre.

The historic Devil’s Backbone Tavern is a fitting venue for this concert. Its history dates back to the late 1800s, just like conjunto music. As the main space was developed into a dance hall, musicians like Adolph Hofner performed, a band known for both Western Swing and traditional German polka music. It’s also a short drive from many Central Texas towns known for both German and Tejano heritage. This will be a great night of dancing and fun celebrating the melting pot that is Texas!

This is the first event of Full Gallop’s new self-produced series “Full Gallop Presents.” Founder Sarah Rucker has worked for many years promoting Conjunto, Tejano, and other Texas genres including production work on the annual Rancho Alegre Conjunto Music Festival in Austin and the statewide Texas Folklife Big Squeeze Contest and concerts. Born and raised just north of Corpus Christi, Rucker developed a love for Conjunto at a young age. In 2015, she started Full Gallop with years of community programming experience and a strong family history in the performing arts. Up until now, she has been working with great organizations and continues to do so but is excited to present her own creative events through the Full Gallop Presents series and hopes to put together great musical lineups and community events in cities and towns across the state of Texas.
