SAN ANTONIO TX — The trial for Jesse Farias, Jr will begin today in a San Antonio courtroom as the 43 year old lead singer from iconic Tejano band La Tropa F will face charges of sexual assault of a child.
KSAT.com reports Farias was arrested in 2021 and charged with the second-degree felony.
A jury was selected on Thursday with opening statements expected this afternoon in the 379th District Court with Judge Ron Rangel presiding over the case, according to the report.
Farias faces a punishment of 20 years in prison if found guilty.
La Tropa F is an iconic band in Tejano music. The Grammy-nominated family band from San Antonio currently extends into a third-generation of musicians, which released an album, Preservando Nuestra Cultura, in March 2020. The band hasn’t performed or released any music since the arrest of Jesse Farias, Jr.
