David Lee Garza congratulates Grupo Frontera on recent success

Tejano music legend David Lee Garza offered his congratulations to Grupo Frontera on the Rio Grande Valley band’s recent success including the top song on the Spotify Global Chart for their collaboration, “un x100to,” with Bad Bunny, a win at the Latin American Music Awards for Best Regional Mexican Song, and topping the Regional Mexican Airplay chart for the second time.

“The Godfather of Tejano Music” shared a video on his official Facebook page with a message for Grupo Frontera. Garza said, “I want to say congratulations to our good friends, we don’t know them, pero (but) congratulations Frontera. All the guys from Frontera, we’re super proud of y’all, man, being from Texas, keep it up! Don’t worry what they say, Frontera forward. We’ll see you soon. Let’s work!”

Could a David Lee Garza and Grupo Frontera collaboration happen soon?

The band from Edinburg, Texas formed in early 2022 achieving success almost overnight with the release of “No Se Va,” a cumbia cover of the folk-pop from Colombian band Morat. The song won Best Regional Mexican Song at the Latin American Music Awards earlier this month.

The Bad Bunny collaboration on the romantic cumbia “un x100to” released last week topped many streaming charts in less than a day and the group performed with the Puerto Rican singer during his set at the famous Coachella music festival.

Grupo Frontera’s most recent achievement is “Di Que Si,” the collaboration with Grupo Marca Registrada, which reached number 1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart this week and debuted at No. 99 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Grupo Frontera made history as the first Regional Mexican act to place three songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, pushing the genre to new places while breaking records.
