Crystal Torres channels Chilean roots with ‘Dime Por Que’ cumbia

Award-winning singer Crystal Torres channels her Chilean roots once again for her latest single, “Dime Por Que,” a song produced by Tejano ROOTS Hall of Famer Shelly Lares.

The peppy salsa-driven cumbia was written by Chilean songwriters with production and background vocals from Lares, and engineered by Kiki Herrera.

“I know I’ve mentioned a couple of times previously that I’m half Chilena,” Torres tells Tejano Nation. “It took a village to create this song and I’m really, really happy with this song. Completely different than what I’ve done before. I like to push myself as far as my comfort zone so that I can grow as an artist.”

Lares has become a mentor for some of the emerging female artists in the Tejano industry including Torres, producing and advising the next generation of Tejano stars.

“She’s a wonderful mentor,” said Torres. “Very, very supportive especially of the younger female talent. I’m really excited to have her hand in this project. She’s really awesome to work with.”

The singer, originally from Iowa, who now makes San Antonio her home, won Best New Female Artist at the Tejano Music Awards in 2014 with her debut album Corazon De Crystal.

“Dime Por Que” is available on all digital music platforms and the highly-anticipated sophomore album from Torres is expected in 2023.
