Tejano music iconJoe Lopezsays he hopes everyone would get vaccinated against COVID-19, according to audio posted via social media on Monday (Jan 25).
In a post on theKLMO 98.9 FM Facebook pagethat featured a photo of theMazzsinger receiving a vaccination, Lopez shared the importance of getting the coronavirus vaccine.
“I urge every one of you to take time and get you COVID-19 vaccine,” said Lopez. “We have too many family members and friends that we’ve lost. This is for real, no joke. It has killed over 400,000 people. That’s more people than World War II.”
“So please look around your community, get in line and be patient,” Lopez added. “Latinos and African American are being hit the hardest. I urge all Latinos to get in line, protect your families, protect the ones you love.”
The United States has almost 25 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and over 400,000 deaths since the pandemic began last year,according to the World Health Organization.
Lopez also spoke about his own experience receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. “After my first dose of this vaccine was a sore arm for 24 hours. That was it,” he said.
The 70-year-old singer plans to resume his Freedom Tour in 2021 after it was placed on hold due to the pandemic. Lopez was paroled in March 2018 after he served 12 years of a 20-year prison sentence for multiple sex offenses involving a minor. The singer has always maintained his innocence and is working towards exoneration.
