Ceci Zavala competes on Netflix competition show ‘Sing On!’

San Antonio singerCeci Zavalashowcased her vocal skills in the season premiere ofSing On!, the new singing competition show that premiered Sept. 16 on Netflix.

“It was by far the best experience I’ve ever had and probably ever will,” Zavala tellsTejano Nationabout her appearance on the show. “It was amazing!”

The fun, fast-paced music contest, hosted byUnbreakable Kimmy SchmidtactorTituss Burgess, features players singing their hearts out and try to hit the right notes to win up to $60,000. There is only one judge and it is the vocal analyzer, which determines the skills of the singers based on their accuracy but contestants get to vote others out during each round except for the singer that scores the highest, who is saved from elimination.

The show took place in London, England, before the pandemic, and Zavala stole the show with her talent during the premiere episode titled “Party Playlist,” singing karaoke style from songs like “Moves Like Jagger” byMaroon 5to “Wrecking Ball” byMiley Cyrusand more.

The contestants spent a lot of time together before the show having dinner and getting to know each other days before filming, according to Zavala, which made it that more difficult to vote against them.

“We became friends,” she said. “There’s now way I’m going to be able to eliminate one of these guys. But, yeah, it was a twist and it was cool and it all was fun.”

Without hoping to give away a spoiler for the episode, Zavala’s vocal talent took her a long way. “I’m definitely in the show from the beginning to the end,” she said. “Making it to the show in general is just a great opportunity. But, yeah, the fact that I actually stayed there for quite awhile was pretty, pretty cool.”

Zavala plans to release her debut solo single “Tik Tok” on Sept. 25 to all streaming platforms. It’s an electro-cumbia version of the 2009 hit song from pop starKesha. She was a part oftwo collaborations released last yearwith electro-cumbia artistCesar K-oso, including a cover version of “The Middle” fromZedd, country singerMaren Morrisand duoGrey, and “Donde Que Quiera Estés,” the 1994 duet originally recorded by late Tejano iconSelenaand theBarrio Boyzz.
