Palomino Festand Pro Rodeo, the biggest annual community event scheduled for Labor Day weekend in Uvalde, Texas, has been postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event is now scheduled for September 2 – 5, 2021, according to festival organizers.
The Uvalde Festival and Events Association, in coordination with Southwest Texas Junior College, produce the annual event that was founded in 1996 by Grammy-winning music groupLos Palominos.
“Since we started this event 24 years ago, our primary goal has always been to have a safe event that poses no risks to our attendees and volunteers that we value greatly,” saidJohnny Arreola, Los Palominos band member. “With the uncertainty with the COVID-19 pandemic, we would never want to put any of our fans and volunteers in any health risk.”
“We hope and pray that everyone understands the reasoning for the postponement until 2021,” he added. “Next year will be 25 years since Palomino Fest began and we can’t wait to be celebrating and have everything back to normal around the country and in Uvalde.”
Since it’s inception, Palomin Fest has generation over $225,000 in support for Southwest Texas Junior College students and includes pro rodeo, carnival rides, a downtown grand parade and live music.
