The mother of legendary Tejano singerJoe Lopez,Benita Lozano Lopez Duran, passed away on Wednesday. She was 95.
She was the “backbone of the Lopez family,” her sonLorenzo Lopezposted on social mediaabout his mother when she celebrated her 95th birthday last month on July 14.
News of Benita’s passing was posted by family friendBonnie Hernandez, a radio personality at Tejano Nation radio affiliateSuper Tejano 102.1in the Rio Grande Valley.
“It is with great sadness I announce the passing of Tejano Legend Joe Lopez, Lorenzo Lopez, Alma Lopez dear mommy Benita Lopez,”Hernandez wrote. “
Asocial media postby Sandra Vallejo, spokesperson for Joe Lopez, included a statement from the singer on the passing of his mother. “We were given a blessing to spend one more birthday with you MOM! Thank you for everything you did for me and my siblings. Thank you for the unconditional LOVE you gave to us you will be missed but never forgotten!”
