Corpus Christi – Iconic Tejano artist and music pioneer, Jimmy Gonzalez, received a posthumous Latin Grammy nomination on Thursday for his hit album Porque Todavía Te Quiero. The announcement was made at a star-studded press conference held by The Latin Recording Academy, producers of the annual Latin Grammy Awards.
Gonzalez, who passed away in June of this year, is a multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy winner and regarded as one of the most influential artists in the history of Tejano music.
Porque Todavía Te Quiero was Gonzalez’s last album released just two months prior to his death.
“This is absolutely incredible,” said Gonzalez’s widow, Lisa Gonzalez, when learning of the nomination. “Jimmy always strove to give his absolute best in the studio. He cared about the production quality of his music and always wanted to give his fans the very best because he knew that’s what they expected from him”.
Gonzalez added, “I know Jimmy’s celebrating up in heaven right now with his guitar and a huge smile on his face.”
The 19th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018. The telecast will broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Univision at 8 pm ET.
