DJ Kane was the original vocalist for the Grammy winning group Los Kumbia Kings and in a recent raw interview, the crooner sets the record straight on the good and bad experiences of his music career.
In the exclusive interview with Tejano Experience, DJ Kane speaks in depth about his time with the Kumbia Kings and spending three months in the studio learning to sing the songs for the group’s debut album, Amor, Familia Y Respeto, that was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with over 500,000 units sold.
“I’ve been a part of a legacy, a group that’s been really huge, Kumbia Kings,” he said.
The singer also didn’t hold back about former Kumbia Kings members that proclaim to have been original vocalists, “There’s so many people that say ‘I’m Kumbia Kings’, but nobody was there in 1997 when I was singing all these hits by myself…It was me, Cruz (Martinez), A.B. (Quintanilla), a drummer and a guitar player…All the Amor, Familia, Respeto disco was all me, I sang all the sh*t by myself.”
DJ Kane added, “They can’t take the hits away from me,” when speaking about trying to be kept from performing classic Kumbia Kings hits during his concerts.
