Chris Perez, the widower of Selena Quintanilla-Perez, shared a photo of the couple’s marriage certificate via Facebook on what would have been their 25th wedding anniversary.
Perez posted the marriage certificate photo on Sunday (April 2) and captioned it with a message for fans.
“Wanted to take the time to thank you guys for all the positive and supportive messages that have been coming in over the last few days. It’s been a lil rough at times but, I’ve been in the studio with family and friends so, that has been a pleasant distraction. Also, I got the news that this year’s Fiesta De La Flor in Corpus Christi was a huge success…which makes me smile with happiness and pride. Obviously, Selena’s impact on the world is still being felt today…as it deserves to be. Thanks for sharing your pictures of the event to my messages and on my timeline. On another note, it’s hard to believe that today marks 25 years since Selena and I decided that the only way to be together…was to run away and get married (at 20 and 22 years old) in secret. What a rollercoaster ride THAT days was. Well, thank you guys (again) for keeping Selena’s legacy alive and well, and for the support on this page. It’s time to get my day started. Wishing all of you a peaceful Sunday.”
Selena was murdered by her fan club president on March 31, 1995 at a Corpus Christi motel. She was 23.
Her legacy continues to grow, two decades after her death, with the annual Fiesta De La Flor, a two-day festival in Corpus Christi that celebrates her life and legacy. She has been immortalized in wax at Madame Tussaud’s in Hollywood, a cosmetics collection produced with MAC Cosmeticsand much more.
Selena lives forever with her fans.
