The celebration will kickoff with a dance on Friday, Jan. 3 from 8 p.m. to midnight with the induction ceremony being held on Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight.
Live entertainment is scheduled for both days of the celebration. Los Garcia Brothers, Los Chachos de Jesse Gomez, Ramiro Gonzalez Y Los Nuevo Campiones are scheduled to perform both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Country Roland Junior and Avizoo will perform along with Ted Lopez Conjunto Recuerdos doing a tribute to Adan De La Rosa and Cuarto Rosas/Grupo Vag doing a tribute for Greg Paredes.
It will be $12 at the door on Friday and Saturday, to reserve a table for eight for Saturday will be $175. Lopez said they are expecting between 800 to 1,000 people to show up for the celebration coming from all over. Money from the celebration goes back to the museum, scholarships and toy drives.
“We're honoring people that have been in the music industry for 15 or plus years,” Lopez said.
Inductees are put into different categories and are chosen by the board. Lopez said a biography and photo of the individual is required to be considered and the board will verify their credentials. Afterwards the board then votes who gets inducted and who will have to wait until next year for another chance.
“We try to be fair to everybody and it's real hard especially when they get very emotional. They'll go through all their history but sometimes they don't make it,” Lopez said. “It's very exciting. We don't get paid to do what we do. Our pay is to meet pioneers...who have been there in the beginning that are just now being inducted and have been awarded for their time in the music. It's an honor for us to be able to do that.”
Lopez said the number of inductees has increased in the past three years. He said it's important for everyone to remember the music and only ask they not let the music die.
