SAN ANTONIO, TX — Two-time Latin Grammy winner Michael Salgado is giving fans an early gift this fall with the release of his heartfelt new single, “Mi Primer Amor,” available on all digital streaming platforms beginning October 31, 2025. The track offers listeners a first glimpse into Salgado’s forthcoming album, Homenaje A Mis Ídolos Vol. 2, due out December 19, 2025.

Self-produced by Salgado, the song carries deep sentimental value for the Tejano star known affectionately as El Zurdo de Oro. “It was one of my favorite songs that I used to perform when I was just starting out in music,” Salgado shared. “I always loved it and finally decided to record it.”

Originally recorded in 1984 by Ramon Ayala y Los Bravos del Norte, “Mi Primer Amor” has remained a beloved classic in Tejano music. For Salgado, covering this timeless hit is both a personal tribute to his musical beginnings and a nod to one of his earliest influences. “While I was putting together songs for this new album, I remembered this one as a great song from back then,” he said. “The message is for everyone who’s ever known their first love. For me, music has always been my first love ever since I was 8 years old.”

Adding to the milestone celebration, the State of Texas will officially honor Michael Salgado for his 30 years of musical excellence and cultural impact. On December 3, 2025, a Texas flag will be raised at the State Capitol in Austin in his honor and later presented to him by representatives of the Texas Governor’s Office during a media event.

Salgado will also receive multiple honors recognizing his enduring legacy, including:

  • An official Proclamation from the Texas Music Office (Office of the Governor)
  • Texas Flag flown at the State Capitol, presented by the Texas House of Representatives
  • Bexar County recognition and Texas flag flown at The Alamo on December 5, 2025

These prestigious recognitions mark a fitting tribute to Salgado’s remarkable three-decade career, one defined by passion, authenticity, and dedication to the fans who have supported him since the beginning.

“I’ve always loved what I do, but most of all, I love doing it for the fans,” Salgado said. “Mi Primer Amor” perfectly captures that sentiment—blending heartfelt emotion with his signature sound, celebrating both his roots and the enduring power of Tejano music.
