Corpus Christi, TX — The rich legacy of South Texas music continues to shine as La Música del Sur de Tejas announces its 2025 class of inductees: recording artist and composer Humberto “Beto” Ramon, broadcaster Carlos Lopez of Cotton Broadcasting, and Roberto “Bobby” Vidal, the first voice of the legendary Conjunto Bernal.
The 2025 Induction Ceremony will take place Wednesday, October 29, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ben F. McDonald Library, 4044 Greenwood Drive in Corpus Christi. The event, hosted by Manuel Ayala, will feature live music by VIDAL in celebration of these three icons whose careers have profoundly shaped the sound and spirit of Tejano and Conjunto music.

Humberto “Beto” Ramon: A Lifetime of Music and Legacy
A true legend in Tejano music, Beto Ramon is celebrated for composing timeless classics performed by some of the genre’s biggest names, including Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz, Laura Canales, Ramon Ayala, Jay Perez, and La Diferenzia. His breakthrough came when he earned Songwriter of the Year at the Tejano Music Awards for his hit “Que Me Lleven Canciones,” marking the beginning of a decorated career that would bring him 11 Tejano Music Awards throughout the 1990s.
Ramon’s artistry has also earned him six Latin Grammy certificates for his collaborations with Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz and Roger Velásquez and The Latin Legends. His achievements have been recognized by the Texas Talent Musicians Association, ASCAP, Univision Latin Music Awards, Pura Vida Awards, Midwest Tejano Music Awards, and the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame. In 2023, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 43rd Annual Tejano Music Awards — a testament to his enduring influence on the genre.
Carlos Lopez: Honoring Four Decades in Broadcasting
For Carlos Lopez, General Manager of Cotton Broadcasting in Corpus Christi, this honor is deeply personal. Lopez shared his heartfelt gratitude upon learning of his induction:
“I’m humbled and honored after 40 years of broadcasting to be inducted into The South Texas Hall of Fame and to be enshrined alongside my father, Humberto Lopez, who was inducted in 2011. To my wife Adriana, my children Laura Lynn, Eric, Allison, and Anthony, and my grandchildren Adam, Henry, and Violet — and the entire Lopez familia — they’ll forever have a chance to read my broadcasting story at the Ben F. McDonald Library. To my fellow inductees Beto Ramon and Bobby Vidal, congratulations!”
Lopez’s four-decade career has made him a pillar of Tejano radio and a respected voice in South Texas media, carrying on a proud family tradition of music and community dedication.
Roberto “Bobby” Vidal: The First Voice of Conjunto Bernal
The third inductee, Roberto “Bobby” Vidal, holds a special place in Tejano history as the first voice of Conjunto Bernal, one of the most groundbreaking groups in Mexican-American music. Founded in the early 1950s by two teenage brothers from a humble farmworker family, El Conjunto Bernal became a cornerstone of the Tejano conjunto tradition — known for its accordion-driven sound, lively polkas, and heartfelt rancheras that continue to echo throughout South Texas.
Conjunto Bernal’s influence extended far beyond its early years, setting a tone of musical innovation that inspired generations of Tejano performers. Vidal’s voice helped define that golden era, marking him as a key figure in preserving and evolving the sound of South Texas.
A Celebration of Heritage
La Música del Sur de Tejas continues to honor those who have shaped the cultural identity of South Texas through music, broadcasting, and storytelling. This year’s inductees — Beto Ramon, Carlos Lopez, and Bobby Vidal — represent the passion, tradition, and talent that have made Tejano and Conjunto music a proud reflection of the region’s soul.
