The Chainsmokers and Kelsea Ballerini Bend Genres With "This Feeling"

Earlier this month, The Chainsmokers and Kelsea Ballerini reignited a Twitter thread that began two years ago.

In a since deleted post from 2016, the EDM duo tweeted at the rising country star that they needed to hang out sometime. "It's like you're READING MY MIND," she replied. "I'm in." On September 4th, the producers retweeted her response and added "Kelsea you think they're ready?" She responded with a cryptic message: "I’ll tell you a story before it tells itself..." she wrote, including a slew of emojis.

On Tuesday (September 18), the duo dropped a collaborative single called "This Feeling," and Ballerini's mysterious message made more sense.

"I'll tell you a story/ Before it tells itself/ I'll lay out all my reasons/ You'll say that I need help," she sings over a thumping beat to begin the song.

The track discusses the complexities of love and how sometimes those around you just don't understand it.

"They tell me think with my head/ Not that thing in my chest/ Got their hands at my neck this time," Ballerini croons as the beat drops down to an acoustic guitar strum. "But you're the one that I want/ If that's really so wrong/ Then they don't know what this feeling is like," she confesses as the production swells back up to a pulsating climax.

This genre-bending collaboration isn't the first time a country artist crossed over to EDM. Earlier this year Maren Morris lended her country crooning skills to Zedd for their hit, "The Middle."

On the flip side, pop stars have been going country this year, too. Over the summer, Florida Georgia Line dropped "Meant to Be" — a collaboration with Bebe Rexha
