Angelica Y Grupo Moneda are back with a bang, releasing their latest single “El Rey Del Acordeón Medley.” This medley, featuring Angelica on vocals, includes three of the most beloved hits by legend Ramona Ayala: “Que Mas Quieres Corazon,” “Rogante,” and “Te Maldigo.” This single is the lead track from Moneda’s highly-anticipated sophomore EP, set to be completed in 2025.
The team attributed it to their parents’ influence when asked about the inspiration behind choosing Ramon Ayala’s songs. Accordionist and Latin Grammy winner Tweet Juarez, who recently lost his father Arthur Juarez Sr. at the end of 2023, shared, “These are the style of songs my father played in the house and in the car when I was a little kid.” Tweet’s father recognized his love for Tejano music and bought him his first accordion at the age of 17.
Producer and fellow Latin Grammy winner, Lorenzo “Papo” Banda of Rokkore Studio, who produces Grupo Moneda’s music, added, “At the age of 7, I was playing drums and mixing the first album of my late father, Lupito Banda’s band Los Hermanitos Banda. These were the songs my dad sang on stage, and this new song represents the early influences of my love for Tejano music.”
Angelica Alcoser, who won Best New Female Artist at the 2022 Tejano Music Awards, expressed, “We went down the rabbit hole of all the Tejano greats and ultimately agreed that Ramon Ayala was the artist we wanted to pay tribute to. It was a difficult choice because there are so many great artists to choose from. Not only that, we wanted to do something different. It’s rare that a female vocalist would choose to cover an artist like Ramon Ayala, and we knew it would be a challenge, but we were up for it. This homenaje is our small way of keeping our own family history alive and, of course, the roots of Tejano music. We’re very proud of how the song turned out.”
