NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Following the release of her MexiAmericana LP — recently featured by Ed Helms on Good Country’s “Ed’s Picks” — bilingual singer-songwriter Veronique Medrano honors Johnny Cash, an icon whose music has influenced her own style, with her “TexMex Country” version of “Folsom Prison Blues.”
Released today, Feb. 23 (just in time for The Man In Black’s Feb. 26 birthday), Medrano again pours her heart, soul, and multicultural life experience into her rendition of the 1955 hit.
“I have had such a long history with this song — it was one of two songs that I would play live, honkytonk to cantina,” Medrano says. “I have been a fan of Johnny Cash’s work since I was a teen and this song has been a staple of my live shows that fans have asked me to record for years. I’m proud to deliver it as a precursor to his Feb. 26 birthday, with my TexMex Country rendition that honors his legacy, while also highlighting the sounds of Mexico within his discography.”

Veronique Medrano is a Tejano (TexMex) Country Artist, described by KSAT 12’s Good Morning San Antonio as “A TexMex artist with a voice as big as the Lone Star State.” A South Texas native, the bilingual singer-songwriter was welcomed into the Recording Academy’s New Member Class in Her one-of-a-kind sound celebrates Mexican and American duality. She effortlessly showcases her talent to innovate the TexMex sound, with four studio albums: MexiAmericana, Lotería, Mi Año Dorado, and Encantadora, and two EPs — 2020’s La Novela and Crying (2021), an homage to Roy Orbison.
