Conjunto artist Brenda Martinez begins a new chapter in her life this week: entrepreneur. The San Antonio accordionist launched Sweet Sessories, her new online boutique that features pan dulce jewelry handmade by Martinez herself, along with other quirky gifts and accessories.

According to Martinez, she has always dreamed of having her own boutique where she could sell her own handmade items and other similarly themed items like fun and quirky handbags and more. With the launch of sweetsessories.com and upcoming in-person vending at pop-up market events at Del Bravo Record Shop, that dream is now a reality.

Martinez, a west side San Antonio native, released her debut album, Favoritas de Mis Padres, in December 2019 on Rancho Alegre Records. The album was completely instrumental, showcasing her accordion skills and paying homage to late Conjunto greats like Ruben NaranjoRuben Vela, and Gilberto Perez and also includes her original polka “La Galleta (Cookie Polka).” Veteran musician and Grammy Award winner Oscar Garcia (Los Texmaniacs,Nick Villarreal,Los Garcia Bros, and more), played the backing instruments on the album, which was recorded at Escalante Music in San Antonio. Favoritas de Mis Padres is available for sale on CD and Vinyl LP, as well as on all digital streaming platforms.
