California Man Shot Infant In The Head After Getting Rejected By Her Mother

A 23-year-old California man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a ten-month-old baby in the head after her mother rejected his sexual advances. 18-year-old Deziree Menagh was at a birthday party with her young daughter and a friend when Marcos Echartea came over started making sexual advances on her.

The two had only known each other for about a week, and Menagh felt uncomfortable around him, so she decided to leave with her friend. As they were driving away, Menagh changed her mind and wanted to go back to the party. As they pulled into the parking lot, they noticed Echartea walking toward the car.

When he got to their car, he pulled out a gun and fired three shots into the vehicle, striking Menagh's daughter, Fayth, in the head. Paramedics rushed the ten-month-old to a hospital, where doctors were able to remove the bullet fragments from her head. She remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

“We have every reason to believe that Marcos Echartea knew baby Fayth was in that vehicle when he fired three rounds into the vehicle,” said police chief Jerry Dyer.

Echartea was taken into custody and charged with three counts of attempted murder.

"In fact, when our detectives brought him downtown, he had no remorse," Dyer said. "He had just shot a 10-month-old baby and didn't even seem to care or it didn't faze him."

He was also wanted in connection with another shooting in which police say he fired into the home of the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend. Nobody was injured in that incident, but police say he is facing multiple charges over the attack.
