Cezar Martinez, lead vocalist for legendary band David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales, was elected to the City Council in his hometown of Robstown, Texas on Tuesday (Nov. 8).

The 25-year-old singer won 55.72% of the vote for City Council Place 5.

“Thank you Robstown for electing me as your new city councilman,” Martinez posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday. “I am honored. I’m looking forward to this new experience. To my opponent, Mr. Elias Vasquez; thank you for all your years of dedication to our wonderful city. I most definitely have some big shoes to fill.”

Martinez, who is currently spending time on the scheduled Gary Hobbs Family & Friends Cruise through November 12, also thanked his close supporters.

“I want thank my family and friends,” he said. “Especially, Tommy Cabello, Adolfo Lopez, Joe Carrion, David Martinez, Victor Orona Jr, and myuncle Ernest Galleos for allowing me to run with them.”

The singer announced his candidacy in August and shared why he was looking for a seat on the Robstown City Council.

“As a life long citizen of this wonderful city, I have seen first hand the struggles that our families deal with in our community,” he said. “No matter what socio economic class you come from, when you talk to residents or business owners; the biggest complaint you hear is our utility and tax rates.”

Martinez has been lead vocalist for Los Musicales since Thanksgiving of 2014. He is the featured vocalist on the band’s 27th studio album, 2715, released in March 2015, as well as their latest album, Una Noche a Tu Lado, released in June 2016.
