Tejano artist Marisela Hernandez has released a heartfelt new single, a medley of songs from the late Laura Canales, known as “La Reina de la Onda Tejana.” Titled Eternamente Medley, the track features three iconic songs from the legendary singer, who tragically passed away in 2005.
The medley is part of a larger tribute project titled Eternamente Laura, which will be featured on an upcoming album set to be released later this year. In a recent interview with Tejano Nation radio affiliate Super Tejano 102.1 FM, Marisela shared the emotional story behind this tribute and how it all began.
According to Marisela, the idea for the medley and album started two years ago during a performance at the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Alice, Texas. “It was just going to be a performance, a small tribute to Laura Canales. But when they ask you to do a tribute, you don’t just do two or three songs. We wanted to make it special,” she explained. “We brainstormed and decided to combine some of Laura’s most popular songs into a nonstop medley, which ended up being about 18 minutes long. The response was incredible, and we started getting invitations to perform it at festivals.”
Over time, the tribute show evolved, with Marisela and her band expanding the setlist and refining the performance. The Eternamente Laura Tribute Show was born, and after performing it at numerous events, they decided to record an album to capture the magic of the live show. Produced by George Ochoa, the album will feature 10 tracks, including the Eternamente Medley.
