Vanita Leo, a second-generation Tejano vocalist from San Antonio, has released her highly anticipated new cumbia track, “Si Dios Quiere”, inspired by the sounds of Tejano cumbias of the ’90s. This vibrant song, written in May 2024 at the renowned Spotify Studios in Los Angeles, California, marks a dynamic contribution to the cumbia genre. Following the success of her earlier singles “Solo tu bb” and “Putazos Al Corazon,” which resonated with cumbia enthusiasts, “Si Dios Quiere” promises to captivate listeners even more.

A collaborative effort, “Si Dios Quiere” features contributions from international songwriters Camilo VelezMaria Vertiz, and Essa Gante, blending diverse cultural influences with infectious rhythms. Produced by Alan Vega, a Los Angeles-based talent known for his innovative take on cumbia, the track showcases Vanita Leo’s exceptional vocal style, which has already won over audiences throughout Texas. Vanita’s passion for cumbia music and her deep connection to her cultural roots shine brightly in this new release.

In an exclusive interview with Tejano Nation Radio host Romeo, Vanita Leo shared insights into her musical background. She revealed, “My father’s name is Marco Jaime. He and his siblings were all part of the Tejano industry. My father and my tío were part of Grupo Rodeo and my tía, Esmeralda, had her own solo singing career. I am a Tejana and I grew up in the Tejano culture and the music I make is inspired by my culture. So, I definitely like to reach that audience and kind of show them what my generation’s kind of coming up with, cooking up in the studio. Right now, I’m focusing on cumbia music, like cumbia pop, and I’ve dabbled in bolero and bolero jazz.”

The inspiration for “Si Dios Quiere” came from a pivotal moment during Vanita’s time at Spotify Studios. She recalls feeling nervous when meeting the songwriters but found solace in her signature phrase, “Si Dios quiere.” Vanita explains, “I’ve always said that my whole life. My family always says that. In this moment in my life, when we wrote this song, it was really hard for me. I was lacking a lot of confidence for some reason. I’m still kind of in that phase of my life. I don’t know what happened, but, the cumbia just talks about if you mess up what was supposed to happen, don’t even think about regretting it or crying about it. Just move on and keep thinking, keep remembering that what belongs to you will come to you. Just kind of like maintaining this positive attitude and not being fearful of judgment or messing things up.”
