Zereno has announced an exciting new addition to their lineup. The band took to social media to share the news: “We are so excited to share the great news with you that in our next chapter…Isaac Vidaurri will be our new voice for Zereno!!! Please help us welcome Isaac as our newest member of Zereno. We’d like to thank the other amazing singers that auditioned for us. Wow! What great voices! But at this time we feel that Isaac was the right fit for us. We hope to see you at our upcoming live performances and soon you will hear our newest recordings as well.”
Isaac Vidaurri steps in to replace longtime lead vocalist Carlos Aleman, who decided to pursue other opportunities after 39 years with the band. Vidaurri, who was most recently the lead vocalist for Mike Gonzalez and The Iconiczz, expressed his excitement, saying, “Feels good to be back.”
When one thinks of homegrown Tejano music, Zereno might come to mind. The six-man group from Rio Grande Valley has been on the Tejano scene for over 39 years. There is no doubt that Zereno has branded a distinct sound, one that captures the spirit of true Tejano music. Since its inception in the mid-80s, Zereno has entertained audiences of all ages. The power and range of Aleman’s vocals, along with the band’s unmistakable sound, made them a trademark in the industry. He decided to part ways with Zereno in October 2024, and the band wishes him huge success and nothing but the best.
Zereno is made up of founder Jesse Cavazos on accordion and keyboards, Mando San Roman on keyboards and backup vocals, Joe San Roman on drums and backup vocals, Jimmy Cano on bass, Javi Guerra on guitar and backup vocals, and now their new frontman on vocals, Isaac Vidaurri.
Through the years, with many hits, Zereno has developed a huge following. In many places in the United States and in Mexico, the band has topped the charts. They first recorded three albums for National Records that produced various hits. Zereno gained instant popularity with their first release, “Mi Amiga,” which was written by band member Armando San Roman, and is considered a Tejano Classic.
The band followed with another huge hit, “Hermoso Día,” which has become their signature song, written by the late great songwriter Luis Silva, proving the band was not a one-hit wonder.
Zereno kept bringing back their unique sound to its fans. In 1992, the band recorded another hit, “Porque Me Das Un Beso,” a song originally recorded by La Ganga for Cara Records, a band belonging to band members Joe and Mando San Román.
In 1994, Zereno was picked up by Capitol EMI Latin. “Nacio Un Amor” was the new album under this iconic record label, which produced hits with the title track, “Nacio Un Amor,” “Es Por De Mas,” which was written by “Mr. Babydoll,” Carlos Moreno, and “Dicen Por Ahí.” The band followed up with another Capitol EMI Latin production named “Lágrimas De Amor” and “Tu Amor Y El Mio,” whose video was nominated at the Tejano Music Awards for Video of the Year.
In 1997, Fonovisa picked up Zereno and produced the “Por Tu Amor” CD. “El Telefono” from that CD had much airplay at radio stations all over.

After an extended hiatus from the recording scene, Zereno released their self-titled album, surely one of their best projects ever. It includes a few surprises that are sure to please fans, including collaborations with some of Tejano’s elite artists like the “King of the Brown Sound”, Little Joe, Ricardo Castillon of La Diferenzia, Margarita “Margie” Fender, and more. After many fan requests, the band also decided to re-record and include some of their greatest hits, since many of their past hits are no longer available for purchase.
Zereno’s name is well-known all over the U.S. and Mexico, due in large part to the band’s fan base which keeps growing with every performance. The energy and love from the fans keep motivating and encouraging Zereno to continue their musical journey.
“We are so grateful to God and all the fans,” says the band. “We love you all and thank you. What time is it? It’s Zereno Time!”
