San Antonio’s beloved cultural event, Día de los Muertos at Hemisfair, popularly known as Muertos Fest, is back this weekend with its signature blend of community altars, live music, poetry performances, curated art market, processions, workshops, and children’s programming. Ranking among the largest Day of the Dead events in the United States, this family-friendly festival embodies the spirit of the celebration and promises an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

What to Expect:

  • 83 Altars (Ofrendas): Set up onsite with altar builders from Texas and beyond, showcasing beautiful and heartfelt tributes.
  • 82 Art Vendors: The highly curated Muertos Mercado features largely women-owned micro businesses offering unique and handcrafted items.
  • 5 Stages of Entertainment: Enjoy performances from a diverse lineup including Los Angeles-based Grammy Award winner Santa Cecilia, San Antonio favorite Girl in a ComaSon Rompe Pera from Mexico City with their 21st marimba, and many more. Tejano and Conjunto artists such as Chente BarreraSantiago Jimenez JrErick Y Su Grupo MassoreVanita LeoAlicia C, and others will also grace the stages.
  • Largest Procession: Witness the largest procession in the history of the event, presented at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Groups such as Equis/Jolt from Washington, D.C., and Texas will honor human rights advocates Eddie Canales and Maria Jimenez, while Viva Tejana Dance Company will pay tribute to Johnny Canales. Varrios with Values will honor Lowriders of the Past, among others.
  • Poetry Performances: Enjoy the poetic talents of Eddie VegaAnthony the Poet, and Amalia Ortiz.
  • Workshops: Participate in the “Que Vivan los Muertos” workshops presented by Jesús de la Torre.
