Grupo Siggno, the Latin Grammy-winning Tejano group, is currently on tour with the rising teen sensation Nathan Acosta as their opening act. The duo recently stopped by the Middays with Ro-Z show on Tejano Nation Radio affiliate La Voz 93.3 FM in Abilene, Texas, on Thursday (September 12) to discuss their music, tour, and more before their performance at the West Texas Fair.
Siggno’s frontman, Jesse Turner, shared details about the group’s latest single, “Porque Dios Mio?,” a song recorded by Grupo Mazz in the 1990s. Turner explained, “It’s a single that people heard 30 years ago. So when we recorded ‘Porque Dios Mio?,’ I wanted to create this hit all over again. Joe Lopez and Jimmy (Gonzalez) sang it together back 30 years ago. But it’s more about the message of the song. It takes me to that moment of when I was asking God, why? But to me, it’s not even a question anymore. It’s more of, thank you, God. What you do is a blessing. And I’ll take whatever you have to give me because tomorrow’s never promised. And if you watch the music video, it pretty much sums it up.”

Turner also emphasized that Siggno is a Tejano group, despite some attempts to categorize them differently. He said, “Long time ago, they categorized us as Norteño. We weren’t Norteño. I believe that we’re Tejano, but we were branched from a different style of Tejano, which is like Intocable, Duelo, Solido, Siggno. This was the branch that was part of Tejano. But there was a moment and they were like, they didn’t, they did, they didn’t, they did. Tejano did this long time ago. And then they realized that we were Tejano.”
Nathan Acosta also shared insights about his latest single, “Solo,” written by Turner. He recounted a personal moment in his life when he went missing a few years ago, causing his family and friends to worry and frantically search for him.
