The Austin Tejano Music Coalition (ATMC) is still on the lookout for talented individuals to participate in its annual Tejano Idol grand singing finale, tentatively scheduled to take place on September 8, 2024 in Austin, Texas.
Although live filmed auditions have concluded, aspiring singers can still submit a video of themselves performing a Tejano song. This opportunity is open to non-professional singers aged 15-55. The deadline for submissions is August 18, 2024.
Tejano Idol, established in 2011, aims to promote Tejano music, increase awareness, and capture the interest of music fans everywhere. According to a statement from ATMC, “We want to draw a spotlight on young artists and infuse the Tejano music scene with fresh and new talent.”
The competition welcomes solo singers of any age and genre, provided they can perform a Tejano song. Contestants will be judged by a panel of Tejano music industry professionals, who will select the Top 12 finalists based on their vocal ability, stage presence, and audience appeal. These finalists will then compete in the finale showcase, tentatively scheduled for September 8, 2024, in Austin, Texas. The event will feature celebrity judges, 12 finalists, and a room full of Tejano music fans and media eagerly awaiting the results. The winner and runner-up will receive a cash prize, a recording session, and other perks, while third place will also receive prizes and recognition. Prizes and hotel accommodations are provided for the finale.
Past Tejano Idol finalists include Tejano Music Award winners Monica Saldivarand Liz Garcia, along with Devin Banda and Carlos Garcia. Some of the Tejano Idol finalist have gone on to record albums, perform at major events, and collaborate with other Tejano artists.
