Grupo Vidal, a band deeply rooted in Tejano music, has just released their latest project, “Crossing the Country Line.” This new album showcases their respect for their family’s Tejano roots while innovating the genre with country and rock covers.
In an interview with Domingo Live hosts Rudy Trevino and Barbi Leo, Javier Vidal spoke about the importance of their Tejano roots. “I think it’s the root foundation of our, well first of all, where we come from, our culture as you mentioned. Also, my dad was a singer to Conjunto Bernal, our father, and so that comes, that’s already in the blood, and so we always want to remember that because it’s important.”
Javier shared details about the new project, explaining how it all started with an impromptu decision to create a country song with a cumbia twist during a performance in Houston, Texas. The audience loved it, and the song quickly gained popularity, leading to the creation of “Crossing The Country Line.” “We started the song, people loved it, danced, sang, really got into it. I said, so then we found a winner, right? Go to the studio the next week, record the video and the song, put it out, two days, half a million views, and that’s what set us on the trend to make Crossing the Country Line.”
Javier also spoke about the band’s musical influences, highlighting the role of their parents and the diverse music they grew up with, including Motown and the Jackson 5. “We grew up listening to it all, especially Motown. So that just sparked fire in us. And when that happened, we couldn’t stop it.”
Grupo Vidal recently signed a distribution deal with Teja Disc Distribution, which will help elevate their music catalog to the next level with nationwide and worldwide manufacturing and distribution. The band is no stranger to the music industry, having previously received a Latin Grammy nomination in 2019 and participated in the Selena movie, singing “Blue Moon” and “We Belong Together.”
