The iconic show, Domingo Live, celebrated its 60th anniversary with a special performance by the “Next Generation Chicano” band, La 45. The show, which was started by Domingo Pena in 1964 on KIII-TV in Corpus Christi, Texas, has been a staple in the Tejano music scene for decades.

La 45, co-led by frontman Mike Torres III, took the stage to talk about the band’s new album and give a sneak peek of their upcoming performance at the Vegas Tejano Takeover.

Torres shared with Doming Live hosts Rudy Trevino and Barbi Leo, “We just released a new album called Presentando that has been doing more things than we expected. It really just took off for us and it’s been amazing and it’s our third studio album and we called it Presentando because we felt like you know it takes a while to figure out what your band is going to be, what it’s going to sound like. You start off trying to sound like your heroes and the people you like and eventually you develop your own sound and we finally feel like we’re at that stage where we are what this band is supposed to be now. So Presentando because we’re presenting the band to the world.”

The band performed songs from their new album on the show, including “Tengo Miedo” and “Quieres Ser Mi Amante”.

The band also shared the stage with music legends performing “Las Morenitas” and “Talk To Me” with Sunny Ozuna, “Vestida de Blanco” with Carlos Guzman, and “Te Traigo Estas Flores” with Freddie Martinez. These performances served as a preview of the 50th-anniversary celebration of Freddie Records with The Legends (Freddie Martinez, Sunny Ozuna, Carlos Guzman, and Augustin Ramirez) at the Vegas Tejano Takeover in July in Las Vegas.

Torres III spoke about the much-anticipated performance this summer in Sin City, “We’ll be in Las Vegas and we’ll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Freddie Records. So we’ll be out there with The Legends at Vegas Tejano Week and we’re super excited all four are going to be there and we’ve had the opportunity to work with Sonny Ozuna quite a few times before and with Augustin Ramirez but this will be the first time that we’ve had all four legends together with us on stage. So it’s going to be a big honor for us, a great party for everybody.”

This celebration of Tejano music, its legends, and the new generation of artists like La 45, is a testament to the enduring appeal and vibrant future of this beloved genre.
