Emilio x Spurs Jersey Concept: A Tribute to the King of Tejano

If you are a fan of the San Antonio Spurs and Tejano music, you will love this jersey concept by NBA jersey artist Trevor Paxton. Paxton, who is creating concept jerseys for all NBA teams, shared his Spurs alternate jersey design on X, formerly known as Twitter, featuring the Silver & Black and the “King of Tejano music” Emilio Navaira.

Navaira, who passed away in 2016 at age 53, was one of the most popular and influential Tejano artists of all time. He was born and raised in San Antonio, and his songs captured the spirit and culture of the city. Paxton wanted to pay homage to Navaira and his legacy with his jersey concept.

The jersey has a white colorway with the font honoring Navaira’s “La Persona de Mi Vida” and “Siempre Grande” albums. The jersey pattern is based on Navaira’s paisley shirts and features the Spurs’ Fiesta colors in the collar and number, outlined with a serape-inspired flourish. The jock tag has Navaira’s signature and his nickname “El Rey del Rodeo” (The King of the Rodeo).

Paxton explained his inspiration and design process in a series of tweets, which you can see below:

Paxton’s jersey design has been received well by Spurs fans and Emilio supporters, labeling the jersey concept as a “masterpiece” and “perfection”.

Paxton’s jersey concept captures the essence of the City of San Antonio by combining the love for the Spurs and the music of the Tejano capital of the world. It is a fitting tribute to Emilio Navaira, who will always be remembered as one of the greatest icons of Tejano music.
