Destiny Navaira, the niece of the late Tejano legend Emilio Navaira, took home the award for Female Vocalist of the Year at the 43rd Tejano Music Awards at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, October 21. She faced off against two other nominees in the category: Isabel Marie Sanchez and Monica Saldivar. All three singers are considered to be the future of Tejano music, a genre that blends Mexican and American influences.
This is Destiny’s second win as Female Vocalist of the Year. She won the award in 2021. Destiny also won Best New Female Artist in 2016 and Best New Group with her band Remedio the same year.
Destiny thanked her fans, her family, and her team for their support in her acceptance speech.
“Just to be nominated in all the categories to me were very important,” Destiny told Tejano Nation after her win. “But definitely Female Artist has a special place in my heart.”
She recently released an EP, “Las Letras de Mi Padre,” a collection of six iconic songs written by her legendary father Raulito Navaira, sung by her late legendary uncle Emilio Navaira.
“My uncle and my dad, they’ve worked so hard for what they have. For everything they’ve done,” she said. “For me, it’s a beautiful thing. I grew up loving this industry, loving this music, and I knew it’s what I wanted to do since I was a kid.”
Destiny is one of the most promising artists in Tejano music today. She has proven herself to be a talented singer, songwriter, and performer, who honors her roots while creating her own sound. She is also a role model for young women who aspire to pursue their dreams in music. Destiny Navaira is not only the Female Vocalist of the Year but also a star on the rise.
