AJ Castillo, the award-winning accordionist and singer, has launched a new venture in San Marcos, Texas. Redwood Sound Studios is a state-of-the-art production studio that offers recording, mixing, mastering, and video services to artists of all genres.
The singer and accordionist, who won Best New Male Artist at the 30th annual Tejano Music Awards in 2010, wanted to create a space where he could work on his own music and help other artists achieve their goals.
“I’ve always had a passion for music and I wanted to share that with others,” Castillo tells Tejano Nation. “Redwood Sound Studios is a place where artists can come and feel comfortable, creative, and inspired.”

One of the artists that Castillo is working with is Ricky Naranjo Y Los Gamblers. The group is signed to Castillo’s G Music record label and are known for their energetic and innovative style of Conjunto music. Castillo is excited to collaborate with Naranjo and his band on their upcoming album.
“These guys, they sound good already, they just need a little bit of this and a little bit of that and we can take them to another level. I feel like I can do that,” said Castillo. “It’s sounding great. It’s going to be the best record they’ve ever done.”
Castillo hopes that Redwood Sound Studios will become a hub for the music scene in San Marcos and beyond. He plans to host events, workshops, and showcases at the studio to promote local talent and foster community.
“It’s been a dream of mine and it’s been going great so far,” he said. “I’m excited and I want to give people, especially from the Tejano onda, the opportunity to record. I just want to elevate the genre and take it up another level because I feel our fans deserve the best.”
