Jay Perez, also known as “The Voice”, has been nominated for Best Tejano Album at the 24th Latin Grammy Awards for his album “El Patron.” This is his sixth nomination in this category, but he has yet to win the coveted trophy.
“El Patron” is a mix of Tejano, R&B, and pop influences that showcase Perez’s powerful voice and charisma. The album, produced and arranged by Rolando Revilla and co-producers Fabian Hernandez and Jonathan McGraw, features songs such as “Necesito Odiarte”, “La Rajita de Canela”, and “Vino Maldito” featuring David Lee Garza y Los Musicales. Perez said he was honored and grateful for the recognition from the Latin Recording Academy.
“I wanted to thank our friends over at the Latin Grammys, the Academy, for recognizing our category for Mejor Album Tejano,” he said in a video shared on social media. “Freddie Records, thank you so much for all your support and to all the artists and musicians that took part in this production, making this wonderful album, ‘El Patron,’ I can’t thank you, guys, enough. Thank you so much. Let’s bring one home.”
Perez started his musical journey as the lead vocalist of the legendary band Los Musicales in the late 1980s. He launched his solo career in 1993 and has since become one of the most popular and respected artists in the Tejano music scene. He has won multiple awards, including the Tejano Music Awards, where he was named Male Vocalist of the Decade in 2010, after winning Male Vocalist of the Year eight times from 2000-2010.
