Veronique Medrano follows up her bilingual and English Country music releases with her original Spanish Tejano-Country tune, “Que Hueva”, which brings the Spanish songwriting styles of Julieta Venegas, Shakira, and Juanes to Country.
“It was something that really came out of this sense of trying to continue this Tejano-Country evolution that I am in and really trying to blend the two together in a way that was authentic to me,” Veronique tells Tejano Nation.
The Rio Grande Valley singer has recorded bilingual country songs since 2016 and this new single is very meaningful for Veronique.
“To be able to bring it full circle with an original song, that means so much to me,” she said.
Written in response to the strike down of Roe v. Wade, Veronique has written a song that expresses the thoughts of many women at this time with a honky tonk twist while highlighting the lives of “Las Mujeres Chingonas” in our lives.
“(It) really just celebrates las mujeres en nuestra vida.” added Veronique. “They’re the unsung heroes really, this is a song for the unsung heroes in our lives, especially our mothers, who are just constantly having to do everything, go above and beyond. Be everything, everywhere, all at once.”
“Que Hueva” from Veronique Medrano is available on all digital music platforms today (May 10) just in time for Mother’s Day and an uncensored release is scheduled for May 26, 2023.
