The Queen of Conjunto music Linda Escobar was recognized for her distinguished career by U.S. Representative Filemon Vela to celebrate Women’s History Month.
US Rep. Vela of the 34th congressional district of Texas recognized some of the most influential women in his district which includes Escobar’s hometown of Alice, Texas.
“La Reina” of Conjunto music was recognized for her many contributions to Tejano and Conjunto music and for actively promoting the genres and culture throughout the world with her performances.
Escobar followed her father, Conjunto pioneer Eligio Escobar Sr., into Conjunto music. She composed and recorded “Frijoles Pintos” at the age of eight years old earning gold record status commencing an acclaimed career culminating with an induction into the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame and the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame.

The singer also shines a spotlight on the future of the Conjunto Tejano genre with scholarships for young musicians during her El Veterano Festival held every year around Veterans Day in memory of her father.
The Eligio Escobar Scholarship Fund was established by Linda Escobar to recognize the talents of young Conjunto musicians under the age of 18 years old and awards scholarships annually to help them continue their education. To date, the fund has awarded over 60 scholarships to children from all over the state.
