TheTejano Gold Countdownreleased its list of the Top 20 songs of 2021. The list features songs from Tejano icons to newcomers with classic and evolving sounds that resonated with Tejano music fans all year.
The list will be part of this week’s Tejano Gold Countdown syndicated radio show heard on 134 radio affiliates in the U.S. and Mexico, hosted by veteran Tejano personalityRudy Trevino, and is considered the apex of Tejano music countdowns over the past 27 years.
Tejano supergroupLa Fiebretopped this year’s countdown of the biggest hits of the year with “Cuidala.” The upbeat Tejano style ranchera is part of the Latin Grammy-nominated albumHistóricoreleased from the “Pride of Pasadena” in May and the song spent 13 weeks in the Top 5 during the year with six of those weeks at No. 1.
Lucky Joepaid tribute to the music of his childhood with the release of his albumNorteño Y Poderoso: Tributo a Mis Idolosreleased in May and the lead single, “El Palomito,” a cover of the classic hit originally recorded by Lupe Tijerina Y Los Cadetes Linarescame in as the No. 2 song for 2021 spending 12 weeks in the Top 5 during the year and six weeks in the top spot.
Bobby Pulidocontinues to crank out the hits 26 years since his debut in Tejano music in 1995. The crooner had the No. 3 tune of 2021 with “Llorame,” a song that features his signature romantic style.
Stefani Montielcontinues to showcase her innovative sounds and it reverberates in the No. 4 song of 2021, “Ya Lo Ves,” which exhibits the skills of her husbandGabriel Zavala, the hitmaker behind a few of the songs on this countdown, including the only new artist on this year’s list,Kary Karina, whose “Todo Este Carino” ranked at No. 13.
Boyz of Kumbiateamed withA.B. Quintanilla IIIto produce their upcoming album and the lead single “Pelon” featuringRicky Rick, a high-energy danceable cumbia that features the signature sound of Quintanilla, who produced many hitsSelena Y Los DinosandKumbia Kings, rounded out the Top of 5 of 2021 for the Tejano Gold Countdown.
