World-renowned Mariachi Campanas de América are proud fans of the San Antonio Spurs and the 12-piece music ensemble released a special song after the NBA team selected 19-year-old French basketball phenom Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday night.
Arguably the finest mariachi group in San Antonio, Campanas de América have a long history with the Spurs, performing at many games including the National Anthem. In 2013, the group released “Go Spurs/ESpurs Go!” anthem to the tune of “Mikaela.”
“It started with the playing the championships for the original three amigos, Tony Parker, (Manu) Ginobili, and (Tim) Duncan,” said Juan Ortiz, musical director and an original member of Mariachi Campanas de America. “One of the songs that was really big at that time was ‘Mikaela’ and when the city started pushing ‘Go Spurs Go’ it just fell right into place with it. So when we got the news that we were going to get the first pick it was a matter of just making some adjustments and gave a verse to Wembanyama. We’re really devoted fans to the Spurs.”
The video has gone viral among basketballs fans receiving thousands of views throughout social media.

Mariachi Campanas de América, which began in 1978, will celebrate 45 years with a special Diez y Seis de Septiembre performance at Infinity Church (612 Fredricksburg Rd) in San Antonio on September 17, 2023.
