After the highly successful chart-topping release of “Asi Como Pagan Pago,” Sunny Sauceda y Todo Eso shifted gears for the holidays with a very heartfelt and true life story with their next release “Niño” off the latest album After Party.
When life comes at you and throws a curveball there isn’t much of a choice but to embrace and run with it. There is no exclusion when your life’s on the road. Thirteen years ago, Sunny was blessed with his first son and while everyone was elated and moving along life “as planned” God had a different path. At four months, Sauceda’s son was admitted to the hospital after having a seizure. It was then that Sauceda and his wife were given the news that their perfectly bouncing baby boy was diagnosed with Infantile-Spasms, a form of epilepsy in children.
Sauceda spent many weeks in and out of the hospital with Jeren and at the age of a year and a half, Jeren underwent brain surgery. While in the hospital with Jeren during this intense surgery, Sunny began to write a song, a release of the three-time Grammy winner’s emotions.
While he had the song years ago it wasn’t until he was in the studio for his DFM album that he was speaking with co-producer, Raul Sanchez, that Sauceda shared the song he was writing and had asked the same questions of many going through struggles, “Why me? Why us? What did we do? Why my son? “
Sanchez, who is also a pastor, asked Sunny, “Why NOT You; you will be a living testimony and a source of inspiration to many.” It was then that Sunny completed the song with co-arranger Alfredo Reed of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Tejano Music Awards Lifetime Achievement recipient Gilbert Velazquez, who engineered and mixed this record, commented after listening to the song, “This one is a tear-jerker, this song lends itself to not only the secular world but to the Christian market as well because we are all children in the eyes of God. The lyrics connect to us all as children of God.”
When asked about the “Niño,” Sauceda states, ”It’s the hardest song I’ve ever had to sing in my life. This song connects with all parents. Even when your kids are grown you will always want to be there for them no matter what. I feel all parents want to be there for their kids no matter what age because even though they may be 45, to your parents you are still that beautiful baby boy or girl they gave birth to.”
“Niño” is dedicated to all parents of children with disabilities or chronic illnesses. It is never easy to see a sick child, but through God’s grace, He chooses us to be blessed with these special angels!
