Allison Vela became a viral sensation after the aspiring singer posted an amazing acoustic coverof “Vuelvo” from Mazz to her YouTube channel in September.  Now, the singer is set to head to the studio to work on her debut single with Gerardo Alvarez and Mar Records.

“We’re going to be doing a single, it’s called ‘Quise’,” Vela told Tejano Nation during an interview at the 38th annual Tejano Music Awards. “Gerardo Alvarez reached out to me, asking if I’d be interested in doing a song.  He sent me this beautiful song. I can’t wait for you guys to hear it.”

Alvarez is a singer, songwriter and producer. He has written many hit songs for some of Tejano music’s biggest stars including Jay Perez (“Hasta El Fin Del Tiempo”), Elida Reyna Y Avante(“Suavecito”), Stevie D and Shelly Lares (“Me Muero Por Tu Amor”), just to name a few.

Now, he is working with Vela on her debut single.

“We’re in the process of recording it,” Vela added. “Hopefully that’ll be out here soon, within the next couple of months, with a music video and everything. It’s really exciting.”

The 22-year-old singer from Robstown, Texas received praise for her cover of the 1992 hit song from Mazz, including Cezar Martinez, lead vocalist for David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales. He shared the video on Facebook with the caption, “Such an amazing voice! Awesome job by Allison Vela! Y’all show her some love! Oh and did I mention she’s also from Robstown, Texas (my hometown)?”

Vela’s YouTube channel features many other covers from different music genres, but this is the first Tejano cover posted on her channel.
